Megan and The Year of Metamorphosis (I): RebirthšŸ„š


Summary: In this blog entry, The Scientist explores Megan Thee Stallionā€™s Act I through the lens of spiritual transformation, astrology, and personal healing. Inspired by the snake symbolism and Ouroboros imagery threaded throughout the album, this blog entry aims to analyse how Megan uses music to shed layers of trauma and reclaim her power ā€” echoing the spiritual meaning of snakes as icons of rebirth and self-renewal.

Why I wrote this?: As someone who has gone through my own stage of metamorphosis, I could relate to a lot of what Megan writes about in her music. Also this amazing album got me through some of the darkest periods of my life so writing this blog entry is my own way of healing.

Act I is more than an album ā€” it's a reclamation, a ritual, and a warning. This post is the first in a two-part series evaluating Meganā€™s ongoing metamorphosis.

Megan: Act I

As a snake sheds its skin, we must shed our past, over and over again

Megan Thee Stallion introduced Act I with an intriguing snake theme and Ouroboros imagery, which symbolises transformation, rebirth and renewal. The process of a snake shedding its old skin is vulnerable and intimate, it then emerges renewed almost as if it's reborn. This mirrors Meganā€™s personal journey of growth and transformation, however, she was forced to face her trauma in the public eye. After shedding her past she was able to evolve and embrace a new form and fresh start.


This era began when she released the first single Cobra on November 3rd 2023, the sun was in venomous Scorpio and the moon in sensitive Cancer. This is significant because in astrology, Scorpio is a fixed water sign ruled by the planet Pluto; which deals with transformation, sexuality, secrets and the planet Mars; which represents aggression, sex drive and war. Cancer is a cardinal water sign ruled by the moon; which represents emotions, sensitivity and artistry.

Whilst the sun was transiting in Scorpio energy with the moon in Cancer energy, this often means that thereā€™s a need to experience intense emotional transformation. This is exactly what Cobra brought, a dark, moody, rock track with heavy emo rap.Ā

Megan Thee Stallion wrote, ā€œCobras exemplify courage and self-reliance. They stand tall and fierce in the face of challenges, teaching one to tap into their inner strength and rely on oneself to conquer their threats. Emulating the cobra helps one be more confident in the person they are within."


The music video for Cobra poetically begins with the rapper crawling out of a snake's mouth, peeling off a layer of her skin. She raps about confronting suicidal ideationĀ whilst going through the process of shedding her old skin, laying in a glass box surrounded by reporters and cameras. This image stuck with me because it was perfect visual representation of what she has gone through the past years, dealing with the loss of her parents, surviving getting shot by her abuser and dealing with the public and media scrutiny because she had ā€œthe audacityā€ to stick up for herself, something that society penalizes victims for. Hearing Megan rap about her dealing with depression and thoughts of self harm was heartbreaking and unfortunately really relatable.

As a survivor of domestic violence myself, I also suffer with depression, suicidal ideation and self harm, however, I canā€™t imagine dealing with that in the public eye and having many people turn their backs on me in an effort to uplift my abuser. All I can say is that weā€™re very lucky that Megan is still alive to this day because the average person would understandably give up.Ā 


The chorus for Cobra goes as follows:

ā€œThis pussy depressed, hmm, I'm about to stress him, yeahā€

ā€œPink nails 'round his neck, huh, but this ain't domestic, ayyā€

ā€œThink it's goin' down, hah, now he stand corrected, ayyā€

ā€œThis pussy depressed, hmm, I'm about to stress him, ahā€


The vagina is a very important and sensitive part of the body so when it's sick the whole body is thrown off. Interestingly, in this song Megan refers to her vagina as being ā€œdepressedā€ and therefore, is not in the mood to be intimate with her partner. Itā€™s known thatĀ trauma is stored in the body, therefore, I find it really clever that Megan makes the connection by comparing her pussy as being depressed. Iā€™ve never heard anything like that before in a song but at the same time it really spoke to me as someone who suffers with PTSD.Ā

Hiss By Megan Thee Stallion


Following the success of Cobra, Megan continues the snake theme with teasers of the rapper incubating in a large egg. A nice way to transition into the new year, carrying on the symbol of transformation and rebirth.

Then, on January 26th 2024, Hiss-story was made with the anticipated release of Hiss. The no.1 track that set the tone for 2024. To put into context of what the planets were doing, the sun was in analytical Aquarius with the moon being in fiery Leo.

Aquarius is the fixed air sign ruled by the two planets Uranus; which represents rebellion, revolution, change, shock, and disruption, andĀ Saturn that represents restrictions, boundaries, practicality, reality, seriousness, and structures. Leo is aĀ fixed fire sign ruled by the sun which focuses on ego, the inner you, your essence and the dynamic expression of the will.

Whilst the sun and moon that day were transiting in Aquarius and Leo energy, this highlights the psychological need to be innovative, original, break forms and express oneself. This is exactly what the no.1 hit single Hiss brought, a powerful and progressive track with witty bars and a hiss-toric message.Ā 

There were so many lyrics in this song that pretty much broke the internet and left certain people distressed, disheveled and discombobulated.Ā 

The number one groundbreaking lyric that had me shook and altered my brain chemistry was:

"These hoes mad at Megan's Lawā€


Megan's Law is a federal law in the United States that requires law enforcement to make information available to the public regardingĀ registered sex offenders.

It was enacted in 1996 after the seven-year-old Megan KankaĀ was brutally murderedĀ by aĀ convicted sex offender, Jesse K. Timmendequas who lived nearby.Ā 

This lyric was a direct shot at all predators and those that choose defend them, itā€™s interesting because Megan's law applies to a majority of people in the music industry yet only rapper Nicki Minaj responded merely an hour later after Hiss dropped by crashing out on Instagram live and sharing snippets of a new diss track towards Megan, titledĀ Big Foot. Where she was heard slut shaming Meg and making fun of her for getting shot in the foot. Her loyal fans "the barbz" also took to social media to continue harassing Meg, doxing people and threatening to deface Megan's late mother's grave for revenge.

Ā Nicki's husband is affected by Megan's law, Kenneth PettyĀ is a registered sex offender after pleading guilty at age 16Ā to attempted rape. In July 2022, he was sentenced to a year of house arrest for failing to register at his new address after moving with Minaj to California. His information can be found on the Meganā€™s Law website.

As someone who grew up listening to Nicki Minaj and loved her music, it was truly disappointing when she married Kenneth. What was worse was finding out that she allegedly harassed her husbandā€™s former victim Jennifer Hough into keeping silent about her attacker. Therefore, it wasnā€™t surprising seeing the once beloved rapper go off the rails over a rap lyric denouncing predators, she decided to stick beside her rapist husband.

Nickiā€™s brother is also affected by Meganā€™s Law, in November 2017, Jelani Maraj was sentenced to 25 years to life for raping an 11-year-old. Nicki paid for his lawyer and also wrote a letter to the judge to ask for consideration for her brother.Ā 

Nicki Minajā€™s unhinged reaction to the mere mention of Megan's law was therefore unsurprising because unfortunately, society hazes and punishes victims for having the audacity to report/ speak up. It usually starts with not believing the victim, then blaming the victim and ends with harassment and giving support to the abuser.

When I finally found the strength to report my abuser to the police in July 2024, I was treated very poorly by the detective in charge of my case and it took months for the police to arrange a video interview to tell my story. Finally, December 2024 I had my interview, however, the questions were so uncomfortable such as asking what I wore on the night of the assault. I honestly felt re-traumatized by the whole situation, if it weren't for my ISVA, I wouldn't have been able to complete the video interview. I donā€™t know if I'll ever be able to receive justice as the process is so slow with only less than 2% of sexual assault cases that go to court in the UK ending in a conviction, the odds unfortunately are not in my favour.

It just goes to show that if a successful artist like Megan with lots of resources can be subjected to hell for telling her truth about her abuser, what does that say for the average person?

Hiss went #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, it was such an influential classic that resonated with many people. This track called out multiple men like Drake, Tory Lanez, Pardi, R.kelly and all the predators in the entertainment industry. Without Hiss we wouldn't have all the rap battles that proceeded in 2024 including the smash hit, Not like us by Kendrick Lamar that also called out notorious predator Aubrey ā€œDrakeā€ Graham, calling him and his associates ā€œcertified loverboy, certified pedophilesā€. Thanks to Meganā€™s Aquarian energy, she brought necessary chaos and disruption that changed rap music forever.

Hiss was my number 1 played song in 2024 and it even encouraged me to report an ex abuser of mine after years of keeping silent. Itā€™s such a cathartic listen and really encapsulates what it feels like when enough is enough and time to bite back at those whoā€™ve wronged you.Ā 



BOA: The Curse of Thee Serpent WomanšŸ


BOA was the 3rd follow up single of Act I, continuing with the theme of snakes, but this took a surprisingly different approach as the rapper teased us with a retro haunted horror game.Ā 

BOA dropped May 10th 2024, whilst the sun was transiting in sensual Taurus and the moon in creative Gemini.

Taurus' ruling planet is Venus, which symbolises love, pleasure and beauty. Gemini's ruling planet isĀ Mercury; which governs intelligence, communication, perception and writing.

Whilst the sun and moon that day were transiting in Taurus and Gemini energy. The key words I would use to describe this energy are determination, resourceful, intellectual, quick witted, writing and speaking. This easily describes Megā€™s excellent pen game as BOA was an instant classic and showed a lot of her range.

The retro themed music video opens with a narrator saying:

ā€œNot long ago, in the mysterious land of Hottie-ville USA, three friends decide to play a video gameā€¦ā€

One of the teenagers convinces the friends to play a game called ā€œThe curse of Thee serpent womanā€ as the ominous game loads, Thee serpent woman can be seen warning the teens to read to rules before pressing play. Unfortunately for our characters, they skip reading the rules despite the warning :

ā€œThe way you die in the game is how you die in real life.ā€

This can be seen as a nod to films like Scott pilgrim versus the world and the horror movie Stay alive.

As the friends begin to play the horror retro video game, Megan appears as Thee serpent woman, killing each player one by one in horrifying and hilarious ways such as by a deadly lazer, strangulation by a boa snake and my personal fave; crushed to death by her ass sitting on a player's face.

Meanwhile we had different shots of the rapper dancing dressed up as a cute pink and blue bunny which reminded me of the character Mirko from the anime My hero academia. This is one of Meg's favourite animes and the MHA's assistant ShŠ¾Ģ„ta Noguchi who regularly posts fanart of the series on his X account (formally known as twitter), has posted multiple drawings of Mirko referencing some of Megan's iconic outfits.

BOA also sampled Gwen Stefani's What you waiting for, and the lyrics ā€œtick tockā€ are repeated in the background as a catchy hook, referencing a certain someone's time being up and they need to clock out as Megan takes their spot as the head of the game. This is also a double meaning as it applies to the social media app tiktok, highlighting that these new age rap girls and influencers are only popular on tiktok, which has an expiration date. Personally, the repetitive tick tock sounds and background chatter in the song also remind me of what it must be like in the mind of someone who is constantly fighting demons because all they have is Meganā€™s success in their mind to the point where she lives rent free in their head, driving them to insanity.Ā 

Overall, the visuals were a creative blend of retro gaming and horror and is one of my favourite music videos to date.Ā 




Mamushi: Thee Man Eating Japanese Pit ViperšŸ


Maintaining the snake imagery and metaphors, Mamushi feat. åƒč‘‰é›„å–œ (Yuki Chiba) was initially released as a album track on self titled third studio album Megan, June 28th 2024. Mamushi is named after the Japanese pit viperĀ (Gloydius blomhoffi) , the deadliest snake in Japan.

The song got really popular due to a viral tiktok dance trend created by user @mona712_official. In response, Megan posted several tiktoks of herself following the dance trend, including one of her doing the most kawaii cosplay as the anime Sailor moon'sĀ lead character Usagi Tsukino.Ā 

Therefore, it was no surprise that Megan flew to Japan to film a music video with Yuki. The video was filmed at both Tsurumaki Onsen Jinya and Engaku-ji Temple.Ā  The highly anticipated mv dropped on August 9th 2024, with the sun in intense Leo and a full moon in altruistic Aquarius.

Leo energy represents the need to create and express oneself and Aquarius highlights the need to innovate, be original, and break forms.Ā 

The music video takes place at a bathhouse where Megan is seen luring the yakuza (gangsters) into her lair before transforming into a gigantic Mamushi snake and brutally killing them. Yuki Chiba, who is working at the bathhouse, proceeds to clean up and paint the victims blue. The men are then revived into an army of the dead that follow Megan's every word. The scene with the blue-faced group of men standing around Megan is a reference to the 1990 film, Dreams by the Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. Other scenes from the mv showcase a range of beautiful ladies working at the bathhouse, which takes inspiration from iconic films such as Rush hour 2.

Mamushi was a global summer hit and had everyone and their mama doing the dance challenge, showcasing her global influence and artistic evolution. I believe this hot collaboration will open doors for other Black artists to collab with Japanese artists.


My overall thoughts on Megan: Act I

It goes without saying that I loved this album. Megan gave us bars, a captivating concept, showcased her range across different genres and gave us stunning visuals to go with this era.Ā 

From the haunting vulnerability of Cobra to the venomous bite of Hiss, and the creative horror-game visuals of BOA, Megan Thee Stallion weaves a powerful narrative of survival, rage, and resilience. With each powerful track, she dismantles societal shame around victimhood, mental health, and womanhood. Themes I relate to deeply as a Black domestic violence survivor.

My favourite songs were Hiss, BOA, Mamushi, Otaku hot girl and Miami blue. These songs were my top ranked on Spotify wrapped in 2024, with each song being completely different from the other but still has the essence of the stallion. There is truly a song for all hotties from anime lovers, southern rap lovers and hotties that rocked with Megan since day one. I also appreciated her vulnerability in songs such as: Rattle, Cobra and Moody girl. We were able to get a glimpse on where her mental state was at and also debunking the same tired critiques from haters that claim the three time Grammy winning artist has the same flow and only raps about the same themes.

Overall, Act I was an amazing body of work and a truly transformative listen. With the new creative freedom on display and being newly independent, Megan was able to showcase her evolution as an artist and put all the pain and trauma she endured all those years into the music, which felt like a healing and rejuvenating process.

This was a great album to commence the rebirth of the rapper and also teases whatā€™s to come with Act II which I will write about in the continuation of this blog entry.Ā 



Snakes, with their slithering, silent movements, hold a mysterious place in the spiritual realm. Whether you see them as symbols of rebirth and renewal, guardians of knowledge, or representations of danger, their meanings are as diverse and profound. If we embrace the lessons they offer, one may just find that these enigmatic creatures are more of a guide than a threat on your spiritual path.
